Cloudy Mountain Road

Cloudy Mountain Road in Fall

Dog on Cloudy Mountain Road in Fall

In these photos, it's the drama of the clouds, along with the deep, rich fall colors that inspire me. The composition is better in the first one; the road draws you from the side to the center of the photo. The road comes from the left at a dramatic angle. When it crosses the center, it curves back to pull your eye back in. The light and the rising clouds give it drama. The lovely, deep cobalt blues of the mountain is touched by an exciting bit of light that brings out a little color ~ I can't even describe the feeling that particular blue gives me. The rust reds and the deep evergreens, contrast with the brilliant yellow green of the field ~ which, in turn, is set off by the moodiness of the cloud cover. In the second painting, that stray dog ambling down the road, accidentally appearing in the photo as he does, just lifts my heart. These are scenes I'd like to capture in paint.
