Classic Landscape Photo

Curving Country Road

House on Curving Road

These are my photos of two views that I like. The first one reminds me of old, classic landscapes by traditional masters. I think it's the coloring more than the composition. It has such depth of color. I can just see it done in oils, with that wet, swimmy look that aged oils have. The composition ~ the road itself, curving off over the hills from such a close vantage point, makes me almost giddy. I see the grandest landscapes when I'm out driving; yet it seems impossible to capture them with the camera or the pencil. For one thing, I can't easily sit in the middle of the road to do my drawing!

In the second landscape, it's the white, gabled house sitting on the curve that caught my eye ~ along with the deep fall colors of the trees. Nice sky and clouds in this one, too. The cemetery is not important in this view; it just happened to be there.
